I’m a professional garden designer, collaborating with clients to create gardens with a harmonious balance of people, place, landscape and nature, full of joy.

How did I get to be this lucky?

It’s a story with quite a few twists and turns, but one memory stands out: in the final meeting with my college law tutor to discuss career options, I found myself saying that I really wanted to work with my hands, ideally with flowers. This was a bit of a surprise, especially to me! She spluttered (quite a lot) and I went away feeling just a little bit silly.

I did the sensible thing and became a lawyer.

The years passed. I was busy with family life and working in the centre of London, but I had a growing collection of plants on window ledges and balconies: my planting ideas got bigger and bigger, but alas not the space for them. It was only after a bout of illness and at a point in life when I could re-set the dial, that I finally grabbed the chance to change my career with both muddy hands.

I studied horticulture at Capel Manor College in the glorious setting of Regent’s Park and later, as I worked in client gardens of all shapes and sizes, I was drawn into redesigning their gardens. I loved this new challenge, so eventually, I decided to put my design work on a more formal footing and obtained my Garden Design Diploma (with distinction) from the Cotswold Gardening School.

And finally, I have my own garden in Somerset. The weekends are now spent raking leaves, mowing the lawn, pruning and weeding, as well as playing with planting combinations and experimenting with new seeds and bulbs.

I’m a Pre-Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers and hold professional indemnity insurance. I work on a wide range of client gardens and outside spaces from tiny roof terraces and courtyards in central London to generous rolling acres in the Cotswolds.

I love my job!
